Fulham midfielder, Tom Cairney, has insisted that there is all to play for this season as the club aimed to return straight to the English Premier League.
Speaking to the club media on the mistake made by the club at Ashton Gate before games were suspended due to the deadly coronavirus, Cairney said it was two points dropped at for the club as they continue to chase Westbromwich and Leeds United.
While lauding the squad for a good performance in a game dominated by the Whites, Cairney is hopeful that the result won’t matter much at the end of the season.
On the penalty shout in stoppage time, he opined that it was a weird situation, adding that the ball came to him fast, and the keeper bumped into him fast, touching him first before reaching the ball.
While being aggrieved for not being given the decision, he said it was a reminiscence of Marek’s against Barnsley.
Speaking on his performances in the last few games, the midfielder felt he has been hitting top form, and the team has been playing well also. He is hoping it continued, and Fulham continues to pick up points and keep playing well.
With the hope that actions will resume next month as announced and the spread of the deadly virus would have been contained, Cairney said Fulham needs to continue winning their games with six points separating them from West Brom and seven adrift of Leeds.
He also said that they need to extend the gap between them and Brentford, which is their next game with four points separating both teams.
He added that getting a maximum point against one of the highest-scoring sides in the championship will be exciting as it will help their aspiration to return to the top flight.
With nine games left, he said Fulham being a chasing would want to play the sides above them to take points off them and close the gap.
Meanwhile, the English Football League is yet to decided on the next steps to be taken after games were suspended until April 3 because of coronavirus.
