Cameroon draw with Cape Verde, while Burkina Faso qualifies

    January 18, 2022

Cameroon were held to a 1-1 draw against Cape Verde on Monday evening as Vincent Aboubakar scored his fifth goal of the competition on Monday evening in the last group game of group A.

The Indomitable Lions won their opening two games of the competition thanks to a 2-1 win over Burkina Faso and a 4-1 victory against Ethiopia. Striker Vincent Aboubakar scored the opening goal of the third game in the first half to make it five goals in three matches.

The striker got a brace in the last two matches, including two penalties against Burkina Faso, who were also held to a 1-1 draw in Baffousam. Cape Verde got their equalizer in the second half with a well-taken-back flick.

Ethiopia’s 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso ensured that they can’t progress to the next round of the competition after losing their first two games, while Burkina Faso and Cape Verde look steady for a round of sixteen spots.

Cameroon topped the table with seven points while Burkina Faso are in second, and Cape Verde will finish as one of the best third-placed teams.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, it will win or burst for the Black Stars of Ghana when they face Debutants Comoros. The black stars lost to Morocco by a single goal in their opening game before being denied victory in their second against Gabon with a late equalizer in the 1-1 draw. Ghana must beat Comoros to stand any chance of qualifying, while Comoros’ destiny lies in other groups if they give themselves a slim chance with a win.

Gabon will hope to avoid drama by beating Morocco, who have qualified after two wins. The Gabonese have four points, but they could top the group if they beat the North Africans.

In other matches, Zimbabwe will face Guinea while Senegal will play against Malawi. Zimbabwe are already out of the competition, while Guinea will seek to snatch the top spot in the group from Senegal.
