Carlo Ancellotti tags Champions League clash with Celtic as “most important”

    September 6, 2022

Real Madrid will begin their 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League campaign, with the hopes of a 15th title, in Glasgow against Celtic.

The 14-time defending champions will travel to Celtic Park to face the Scottish champions, who are making their first group stage appearance since 2017/18.

The Scots are in great form after Saturday’s 4-0 win over fierce rivals Rangers which translates to an eight-match winning streak that has produced an impressive 35 goals.

The Los Blancos have had a perfect start to the La Liga season with four wins from four, including a 2-1 win over Real Betis on Saturday.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti believes the game will be tricky for the La Liga table toppers and expects their host to give them a challenging game.

The Italian underlined the need for an excellent start to the UEFA Champions League campaign by tagging the game the most important game of the first part of the season.

Real Madrid must be wary of Celtic forward Liel Abada, who has netted five times across his last three outings.

However, the Spanish Giants have Benzema, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo to call on for Tuesday’s Clash. Rodrygo netted Madrid’s winner against Betis and scored five UCL goals last term.

Meanwhile, in other UEFA Champions League fixtures involving La Liga teams, Sevilla will be at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Tuesday as they welcome Premier League champions Manchester City for a home tie.

Sevilla have endured poor form at the start of this season, losing all but one of their La Liga games so far. On the other hand, Manchester City will go again as they hoped to win their first ever UEFA Champions League title, having gone as far as the semifinals last season before Real Madrid ousted them in a remarkable comeback.
