Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has expressed his delight at returning to the Spanish national team after a long period away which saw him missing the Euro 2020 in the summer.
However, he makes a return to the team ahead of the FIFA world cup qualifying matches for November. Spain face Greece in Athens on Thursday, before playing against Sweden at home on Sunday.
The La Roja has to win both matches if they want to be assured of qualification for the world cup in Qatar 2022.
Meanwhile, Carvajal who has enjoyed a resurgence with Real Madrid this season in the La Liga, has played 12 games in all competitions including four in the La Liga and two in the UEFA Champions League.
He revealed that, while he admires the team’s performance at the Euro 2020 in the summer, he is glad to join the team.
“The group is fantastic. I’ve seen the documentary about Euro 2020 and it’s a very healthy group in which everyone is going in the same direction. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to play all the games that I would have liked with the national team. We have to win no matter what, we’re going to do everything to win tomorrow” Carvajal said.
Spain are second on the table in the group with two points behind table-toppers in Sweden who has 15 points from six games played.
Greece are in third with nine points, while Georgia and Kosovo follow with 4 points each.
Real Madrid are second on the La Liga table behind Real Sociedad with just one point.
Ireland will face Portugal in other matches, Cyprus will travel to Russia, Azerbaijan and Luxembourg, Armenia will play North Macedonia, Malta V Croatia and Slovenia against Slovakia.
