The World Cup Final in Qatar was intense as it was very closely contested and tempers were high. It took the penalties to decide the winner which says it all about France and Kylian Mbappe’s performance in the finals. However Argentina were crowned champions as Lionel Messi was standing at the peak of footballing paradise.
However there were several controversies that happened during and after the game which did make headlines. Now with the players returning to their respective clubs and resuming with the season, it is interesting to know their takes on such incidents.
Kylian Mbappe who was back in PSG training ground in not time after the World Cup finals disappointment was quizzed how affected he was regarding Emiliano Martinez’s celebration where he had the face of the Frenchman on a baby toy. These were done during the celebration and trophy tour back in Argentina. While the entire football fraternity found it very disrespectful of the Aston Villa goalkeeper, Mbappe does not pay much attention to these things.
“Celebrations are not my problem,” the 23-year-old said in a classy response after PSG’s 2-1 win. “Don’t waste energy on such futile things, the important thing for me is to give the best of myself for my club.”
The Frenchman scored a hattrick in the Finals to keep France in the game even in extratime when they were behind. He was simply sensational on the night. He even scored his penalty in the shootout but was unlucky to be on the receiving end.
However he is now concentrating in club football and the main focus is back to Paris Saint Germain. The Parisiens have a very important season ahead as the youngster also wants to win the Champions League. So this season the French outfit will face Bayern Munich in the round of 16. The first leg is on 15th february whereas the second leg is on 9th March.
Speaking about preparations with PSG, Mbappe spoke about his reunion with Lionel messi. He also revealed that he had congratulated the Argentine sensation after he had won and could see how important it was for him.
“We will wait for Leo to come back to continue scoring and winning games. I spoke with him after the final, I congratulated him. It was the quest of a lifetime for him, for me too, but I failed, so you always have to be a good sport,” Mbappe concluded.
