Celtic striker, Jack Aitchison has started his loan spell at Forest Green Rovers on the front foot after scoring on his debut.
Aitchison scored the only goal of the encounter as the League Two side thumped Cambridge United to a 1-0 win. The 19-year-old scored just within 12 minutes of coming off the bench as Rovers continue their incredible start to the campaign.
The youngster was on the receiving end of a pass from Joseph Mills just on the edge of the box before cutting inside a Green Army defender and firing a fierce shot into the goal.
Fans of the Hoops are the least surprised seeing the 19-year-old score on his debut game. He found the net for Celtic at the young age of 16 sometime in May 2016 when the Hoops strolled past Motherwell with a 7-0 scoreline.
However, the Scot had a difficult campaign last term in loan spells at both Alloa Athletic and Dumbarton. So, seeing the striker getting off on the front foot at New Lan with a goal will keep many Celtic fans smiling and grinning at the prospect of the young lad banging goals when he makes a return to the club.
Indeed, many of these fans took to their social media handles to express their joy and excitement over Aitchison getting off the mark at Nailsworth.
Forest Green Rover gaffer, Mark Cooper, wasn’t left out of the party. The manager was full of praise for the youngster.
Jack Aitchison was signed on loan on transfer deadline day as he sought regular playing time in English football.
Cooper, who was impressed with the youngster’s performance after being brought into the fray from the bench, thanked his side’s goalie and Aitchison who according to him was out of the world when he came on.
He said the teenager was sharp and ultimately won his side all three points.
“We can thank our keeper for a great save and Jack Aitchison for being absolutely out of this world when he came on.
“He looked really sharp, everything we thought – it was just getting the timing right to bring him on. He won us the game.”
