Celtic have expressed their interest in Iranian forward Mehrdad Mohammadi, according to reports. The 26 year old forward left Iranian side Sephan for a club in the second-tier league in Portugal last summer.
The forward in his debut season scored seven goals with five assists in 16 league appearances.
The transfer might come as a surprise after Celtic has signed Patryk Klimala’s from Jagiellonia Bialystok in Poland. But Mehrdad can play up front or out wide and has a better experience than the polish teenager.
The Hoops have therefore shown interest in signing Mehrdad, and there are beliefs that Celtic could.l make concrete offers to Desportivo Aves before the close of the January transfer window.
His contract with his current employers runs until 2022, and there are no reports about a specific transfer fee, which will be required by the club for Celtic to complete the transfer.
Even though the growing like Celtic has for the Iranian, there is no intention of him or the club open to a move this summer. And besides, Aves may not be too keen to let the player go having just signed the player over the summer, but the onus remains on Celtic if they are willing to use enough cash to tempt the player.
The Scottish Champions had already lost Kieran Tierney last summer after he departed for the Premier League side Arsenal. However, Celtic had previously shown interest in Milad Mohammadi, the twin brother of Mehrdad, as he turned down the chance and joined Belgian side Gent that same window.
