Celtic are ready to rake in a six-figure transfer share if Aaron Hickey who plays for Hearts FC in SPFL leaves the club.
Manchester City and Southampton are interested in the 17- year old who has been instrumental so far for his club (Hearts FC). The youngster left Celtic youth academy in July, 2018 to return to the club where he began his career as a kid.
Reports have it that Celtic had a 30 per cent sell-on clause inserted into the deal that saw him sealed a move away from the club. They were also entitled to a training compensation fee, but such was the club’s faith in the player’s potential, they decided to negotiate an alternative structure.
Given a fee of £2m which has been subject to discussion, £600,000 will be set aside for the Glasgow club should the deal be agreed upon.
Aaron Hickey stood out as a star performer in the Scottish Cup final where he was against James Forrest – who was the player of the year, and the youngster is replicating that form this season.
He is a versatile player who can play across the full-back or wing-back positions, and he is endowed by being excellently two-footed as he proved when he played from the left-hand side to score with his right foot against Hibernian in Hearts’ vital derby win last month.
While his contract runs until 2021, Hearts are still keen to agree to a new deal, something the club finds more difficult than hoped.
The club hierarchy said, ” we are in the middle of that now, it’s quite difficult though, he doesn’t have an agent, I’ve been dealing with his dad, and it has been a little bit drawn out.”
But I’m confident we will get there at the end. It’s not bothering the boy, and it’s not something he’s overly concerned about”.
Celtic host CFR Cluj in Matchday 2 of the Europa League this Thursday 3/10/19.
Celtic are available at 1.54 get a home win over CFR Cluj, while Cluj are set at 6.85 to claim an away victory.
