Reports indicate striker Romelu Lukaku seems to be on his way back to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea have put together a successful bid worth €115 million (£97.5 million).
Lukaku returns to Chelsea, a club he played for from 2011-2014.
Inter Milan had recently rejected a bid from Chelsea that could be summed up as €100m plus Marcos Alonso.
But with Lukaku letting management know he’d prefer to play elsewhere, they were forced to keep listening to “unrefusable” offers.
This is a club-record transfer for Chelsea.
Lukaku, now 28, scored 47 goals in 72 Serie A appearances with Inter Milan since joining them in 2019.
Lukaku is no stranger to the Premier League, having played for the likes of Chelsea, West Bromwich, Everton and Manchester United.
He finished with 30 goals and 10 assists in 44 appearances last season.
“I will not talk about players who don’t play in my squad,” Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel said this week. “He’s a fantastic player, but he’s an Inter player, and I will not talk about him in this situation.”
Chelsea have been adamant in adding a top forward or center-forward this offseason, and had been previously been pursuing Erling Haaland. Borussia Dortmund, however, decided to hold on to the star for another season, with Chelsea moving on to other options.
There’s still a chance Lukaku’s deal goes through in time for Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup match vs Villareal.
