Reports from the English media have stated that Chelsea are willing to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson for £50m.
Frank Lampard has identified Dean Henderson as his summer transfer target to fill in the goalkeeping position at Stamford Bridge. The deal is said to cost about £50m and would see the goalkeeper replace Kepa Arrizabalaga at the London club.
Dean Henderson is a Manchester United player but is yet to feature in a game for the Red Devils although he has been on their books since he was young.
Henderson was loaned out to Sheffield United and has been in terrific form for the club.
Sheffield United are the surprise team of the 2019/20 Premier League season. They have enjoyed a great campaign and are currently seventh in the Premier League table.
At the heart of Sheffield’s meteoric rise has been their goalkeeper, Dean Henderson. His splendid performance between the sticks this term has seen his stock rise immensely.
Although many would expect Henderson to return to Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks set to stick with Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea despite his drop in form. De Gea even signed a new contract and extended with a five-year deal in 2019.
Many Manchester United fans believe that Henderson is ready to take over from De Gea, Henderson could end up joining their rivals, Chelsea.
This is not to say that Manchester United are not pleased with his performance. It is understood that United would be glad for him to spend another season at Bramall Lane and might go ahead to offer him a new deal, so as to convince him that they view him as a long term successor to De Gea.
However, Chelsea are ready to make an offer and act on his situation. The Blues are set to spend around £50m to bring in Henderson.
Current Chelsea goalie, Kepa Arrizabalaga has seen his form drop this season. Frank Lampard even dropped the Spaniard in favour of Willy Caballero. The Blues spent around £71m for the former Atlético Bilbao man in 2018, but he has not impressed since he joined and the club are likely to sell him this summer.
