Clyde no match for superb Celtic in Scottish Cup

    February 12, 2020

Glasgow Celtic continue their hunt for the domestic double, as they steamrolled over Clyde on Sunday.

The Scottish League One side of semi-professionals were left without a chance by their visitors, who dominated the game from start to finish as expected. The home team is struggling closer to the League One relegation zone and they showed no signs of challenging Celtic in the cup either.

The visitors controlled the ball for 69% of the game, only allowing the hosts one shot on goal all game. Clyde was trying to surprise Scott Bain, only getting his second start of the season, from long-range shots, but couldn’t get through the Celtic defense. The visitors on the other hand were a constant threat. They had a hefty 25 goal scoring efforts, 11 of which were blocked by Clyde defense and six off- target. Celtic managed to score three goals with their 8 shots on goal.

Applying some rotation, but still staying competitive, Neil Lennon gave a rest for leading goal scorer Odsonne Edouard, who was replaced by January acquisition Patryk Klimala. The Polish striker was handed his first start since arriving from Jagiellonia. Klimala went on to play well, but it was one of the workhorses, a regular starter who drew the first blood. Olivier Ntcham found the net for the first time on the 16th minute. The insurance goal took some time to create, but finally veteran midfielder Scott Brown broke Clyde’s defensive barrier to take Celtic 0-2 up. Substitute striker Vakoun Bayo then thanked for the trust and scored the final tally after being on the field for only 15 minutes. Score line of 0-3 seemed comfortable for both sides as the visitors performed with confidence and the home side, undeniably underhanded from the start, went down fighting.

Celtic will face fellow Premiership team St. Johnstone on the road in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals on 29th February. Before that, Celtic are paid a visit by Hearts in Scottish Premier League already on 12th February, so don’t miss out on Dafabet’s Celtic FC Prediction Challenge in order to win free weekly bets.
