Netherlands beat Belgium to Nations League semifinals

    September 26, 2022

Following Portugal’s 4-0 win over the Czech Republic on Saturday, it’s obvious the Portuguese would not go through the stress of defeating their Spanish counterparts on Tuesday to claim the top spot in the Nations League A2 Group.

However, Portugal right-back Diogo Dalot has issued a stern warning saying there won’t be chances for a draw.

The Manchester United man revealed that their plans in the final group game would not be treated with levity despite sitting comfortably on the log.

Dalot’s performance over the weekend was nothing short of pure brilliance as he grabbed a brace. His tenacity at the full-back position in that game showed why he’s the best fit right now for Portugal.

On the other hand, the Spaniards were handed their first defeat on their home soil in about 22 games as they fell to a 2-1 loss to Switzerland as goals from Manuel Akanji and Breel Embolo ended Spain’s running form.

Portugal looks to host Spain in Braga on Tuesday evening, knowing for sure a win or draw at least will guarantee them a place at the finals of the competition next year.

With that at the back of their minds, Dalot revealed there would be no room for complacency when they face Luis Enrique’s men.

“Our game on Tuesday is something I look forward to. The target and goals remain the same as it has always been in every game.

“We want to maintain that and continue to give our best for the country and fans. Our mission in Braga is to win,” he added.

Portugal boasts 10 points consisting of three wins, one draw, and a loss. A win on Tuesday will see them stretch th4 lead on top with thirteen points and automatic qualifications to the next round.
