David Beckham has joined his former Manchester United teammates Eric Cantona and Roy Keane into the Premier League Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the prestigious list on Thursday, as part of the ongoing process.
Beckham won six Premier League titles with Manchester United. He was known for his immaculate passing ability, pinpoint crossing and set-piece threat. He scored 18 goals from free-kicks during his stint with the Red Devils and that sums up the quality he possessed.
Before Beckham, other legends like Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, David Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard had already been included in the Hall Of Fame.
“It’s an honour to be inducted into the inaugural Premier League Hall of Fame alongside these legends of the game and league,” Beckham was quoted as saying by premierleague.com.
“The Premier League was such an important part of my career and life and I’m delighted to be recognised alongside these icons who I played with, competed with and looked up to.
“This is made even more of an honour for me knowing that it was down to the fans. This past year or so has shown just how important fans are to the game and it’s so great to see them slowly being able to come back to stadiums because they make football truly special.
“I’ve always said that throughout my playing career and beyond, I’m so lucky to have incredible fans who support me no end so thank you to everyone who voted,” Beckham added.
The English midfielder spent a total of eight full seasons with Manchester United after making his debut in the 1996/97 season. Soon he established himself as one of the first names in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
Beckham has a total of 80 assists to his name in the Premier League, which has been surpassed by only eight players till date. Overall, he has been involved in 142 goals in the Premier League, which again has been surpassed by only three players till now.
