Dominic Calvert Lewin Scores Brace as England Beat San Marino

    March 26, 2021

England began its World Cup Qualifiers with a 5-0 win against San Marino at the Wembley Stadium on Thursday evening.

The three Lions were the overwhelming favorites and they dominated from start to finish scoring the first goal of the game just 14 minutes into the game.

Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse scored the team’s first goal on the night finishing off a low pass in the San Marino box.

England added another seven minutes later as Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed into an empty net after the goalkeeper missed a cross.

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling added his name to the scoreboard ten minutes later as England entered the break with a 3-goal lead.

It took 8 minutes into the second half for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to score his second goal of the night and England’s fourth goal.

Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins made his national team debut in the 63rd minute after coming on for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and he found the back of the net 20 minutes later.

The game ended with 5 goals for Gareth Southgate’s men as they prepare to face Albania next.

In other matches, Spain was held to a 1-1 draw by Greece. Alvaro Morata had given the Spaniards the lead going into the break but Greece equalized early in the second half.

Germany defeated Iceland 3-0 with Ilkay Gundogan and Kai Havertz scoring for the 2014 World Cup Champions after Borussia Dortmund’s Leon Goretzka opened the scoring after three minutes.

Italy defeated Northern Ireland 2-0 while Hungary was held to a fascinating 3-3 draw by Poland and Zlatan Ibrahimovic was influential on his return to international football as Sweden beat Georgia 1-0.

Switzerland defeated Bulgaria 3-1 while Denmark beat Israel 2-0 and Scotland drew 2-2 with Austria.
