Romelu Lukaku has been a major talking point for Chelsea over the last few months. The Belgian striker has struggled to deliver according to expectations when he came to Stamford Bridge for his second stint with Chelsea. The club expected big things from him after his Inter Milan where he helped the club win the Serie A and break Juventus’ dominance.
Former Premier League midfielder and football pundit Don Hutchinson has slammed the belgian striker and feels that manager Thomas Tuchel should be furious with Lukaku for his returns on the pitch in the season gone by.
According to Sky Sports, Lukaku is trying to secure a move back to Inter Milan. The Belgian’s representatives have already held talks with the Nerazzurri about a possible return to the Serie A.
In December, Lukaku apologised to the Inter fans during his interview with Sky Italia mainly for the way that he left the club. He then vowed to return one day.
Lukaku has already soured his relationship with Thomas Tuchel and therefore a move away from Chelsea is very much possible. Hutchinson believes that Tuchel must be furious with Lukaku and his recent developments. He told ESPN, “[Lukaku’s] representative has been meeting clubs in Italy. If I were Tuchel, I would be absolutely fuming to see this. It’s up to Tuchel to say, ‘What are you doing? We’re not selling you.’ I’m not hearing too much noise from Tuchel, so that says to me that Chelsea are quite willing [to offload Lukaku].”
The Belgian rejoined Chelsea this summer for a record fee of £97.8 million as he signed a four year contract with the Blues. But the forward has struggled to get going. He has only scored 15 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions. He was signed by the Blues to strengthen their Champions League winning team as Tuchel wanted more firepower upfront but Lukaku has failed to live up to those expectations.
Lukaku during his time at Inter Milan was considered as one of the most potent goalscorers in the world. He also developed a great partnership with Lautaro Martinez upfront and they together were deadly in attack, helping Inter Milan win the Serie A title ending Juve’s regime in Italy.
But since his departure a lot has changed this season as their rivals AC Milan won the Serie A title with Inter Milan finishing in second position just two points off from the summit. So with Lukaku returning to Inter Milan might mean a lot to the Nerazzurri making them contenders for the Serie A title once again.
