Eddie Howe gives update on Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier’s injuries

    March 23, 2022

Newcastle manager has revealed that he will take things easy as Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier continue their return from their respective injury problems

Eddie Howe has been forced to continue Newcastle’s revival without both players, especially Trippier, who only joined in January and scored twice in two games before sustaining injury.

While Callum Wilson got injured in December, England international Kieran Trippier got injured in February after fracturing his metatarsal.

Callum Wilson has returned to training, while Trippier is also close to a return after joining the Magpie’s training camp in Asia. This has led to reports that both players could return to action for Newcastle before the end of April. However, Eddie Howe has rejected such reports stating that he will not fast-track the healing process of both players.

‘I’d say they’re on schedule from where they were given their respective injuries, but I wouldn’t say necessarily ahead of schedule. They’re both serious injuries, both enough to obviously be operated on and go through a very intense rehab period.” Howe said on the club’s website.

The expected return for Callum Wilson and Kieran trippier has been set for Newcastle’s next Premier League games against Crystal Palace and Norwich City after the international break.

Callum Wilson has six goals in all competitions for Newcastle United this season as he remains the club’s highest goalscorer despite being in injury. Trippier joined the toons from Atletico Madrid in January in a deal worth 12 million pounds.

Newcastle are in 14th position, with 31 points from 29 matches played, standing 9 points above the relegation zone, while still having nine more Premier League matches to play.

Newcastle’s last two results have been 1-0 losses to Everton and Chelsea. Their last game against Everton saw them lose to a late goal from Alex Iwobi in the stoppage time at Goodison Park.
