Paris Sainte-Germaine have confirmed the departure of striker Hugo Ekitiké to Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt in the last moments of the German transfer window.
L’Équipe reported that the deal for the 21-year-old striker was completed shortly before the closure of the Bundesliga window (18:00 CET), and he is already in Frankfurt to sign the contract and undergo medical tests.
According to Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport, the deal is for a loan with a mandatory buy option, including a sell-on clause of 30M€.
“The French striker is committed to Eintracht Frankfurt until June 30, 2024, as part of a loan with an option to buy.
“Paris Saint-Germain wishes Hugo all the best for his new challenge in Germany,” a statement from PSG reads.
GFFN reported that PSG had been actively working on solutions for the talented Ekitiké. The forward had been offered to several European clubs, including Manchester United, before the move to Germany.
Having played just eight minutes of football for PSG this season, Ekitiké has been down the pecking order, with Luis Enrique preferring Randall Kolo Muani, Goncalo Ramos, Marco Asensio, and, of course, Kylian Mbappé to him.
It’s hoped that the striker will help Eintracht, which currently sits in sixth in the German Bundesliga, in their quest for a European spot.
In another development, Chelsea have recently shown an interest in signing defender Nordi Mukiele.
However, the 26-year-old French defender is now expected to remain with Les Parisiens.
Mukiele was reportedly heading out of PSG as Bayern Munich showed great interest in signing the former RB Leipzig full-back.
However, despite agreeing on personal terms with the Bavarian side, a move did not materialise. It seemed Sacha Boey’s arrival at the Allianz Arena spelled an end to their pursuit.
He will now have to fight for his place in the team with the hope of staying injury-free.
