EPL: City Pip Brighton, as Spurs Draw with Fulham

    January 14, 2021

Manchester City extended their winning streak in the Premier League to 8 games in a row with a 1-0 win over Brighton at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

English midfielder Phil Foden scored the game’s only goal with a late strike just before half-time from a Kevin De Bruyne assist.

It is the youngster’s 4th goal in six games in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s men. The 20-year-old was also on the scoresheet in weekend’s 3-0 win over Birmingham City in the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling missed an opportunity to double the advantage for City after losing a stoppage-time penalty.

Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez had committed a foul in the box, but Sterling blazed the spot-kick over the bar.

The win takes City to the third position with 32 points on the table from 16 games played. Brighton is winless in their last nine Premier League games.

The Seagulls are just above the relegation zone with 14 points from 18 games, two points away from Fulham who are in 18th position.

Meanwhile, Fulham got a draw against Tottenham Hotspur at the White Hart Lane Stadium.

A Harry Kane first-half header in the 25th minute gave the home side the lead into the half time before Portuguese forward Ivan Cavaleiro equalised for the visitors in the second half.

Tottenham had scored what looked like the winner in stoppage time before the VAR cancelled the goal for offside.

The result is Spurs second draw in 5 games, but their unbeaten run stretches to six games. Jose Mourinho’s side is in 6th with 30 points from 17 matches.

Fulham remains in the relegation zone with 12 points from 16 games having conceded 24 goals and scored 14 goals.

Up next on Thursday, Arsenal will host Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.
