EPL: Norwich City Clash Against Southampton Still On Despite Coronavirus Fears

    March 13, 2020

The English Premier League clash between Norwich City and Southampton at the Carrow Road will still go ahead as planned despite the increasing spread of the virus, which is now considered a global pandemic.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers had on Thursday stated that three of the Foxes’ players are currently undergoing self-isolation, having shown signs and symptoms of the virus.

Norwich, on their part, released a number of public advisory statements during the week to warn and advise fans intending to visit Carrow road to be cautious and take preventive measures.

Meanwhile, the Premier League has also been planning ahead as well as making contingency planning as the UK’s prime Minister Boris Johnson disclosed on Thursday stated that the United Kingdom is facing the worst public health problem in recent history.

He said that one of the ways to fight the issue is to cancel big sporting events, which the government is considering to take soon.

The English Premier League remains one of the few sporting events that is still going this weekend despite the threat of Covid-19 after the La Liga postponed two match days.

The La Liga made the decision on Thursday as Real Madrid players were put into quarantine after a member of the Real Madrid Basketball team was confirmed to have contracted the virus.

Their UEFA Champions League round 16 clashes with Manchester City is postponed as well. At the same time, Manchester United played their 5-0 win in the Europa League against LASK in Austria was played behind closed doors.

Former Manchester United wing-back Ashley Young was also confirmed on Thursday to have the virus, same as Juventus Danielle Rugani, and has since led to the suspension of the Seria A.

Matches in the Dutch Eredivisie has been suspended as well as the Bundesliga to be played behind closed doors while UEFA is contemplating suspending and shifting Euros to 2020 to 2021.
