Barcelona trio of Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Pedri have all be named in Luis Enrique’s 24-man squad. Eric Garcia, who is going to join the Catalan giants very soon, is also an inclusion in the contingent.
Former Barcelona players Thiago, Dani Olmo and Adama Traore were also included in the squad. While Thiago will be one of their main players in the tournament, Dani Olmo was awarded for having 2 consistent seasons with RB Leipzig in Germany. The same can’t be said about Wolves winger Adama Traore whose end product has always been underwhelming.
Spain, who are record 3 time European Champions, will be without veteran defender Sergio Ramos as he was snubbed by coach Luis Enrique due to the lack of playing time the Real Madrid captain has got recently.
Sergio Ramos wasn’t the only Real Madrid player to be left out of the squad as Nacho was also looked past, while having played more football than Eric Garcia this season. Infact, none of the Real Madrid players could find their names in the 24-man contingent as Lucas Vasquez and Marco Asensio also missed out. Both the Real Madrid wingers can make a good case for themselves to be picked over Adama Traore.
Spain have a fairly easy group and should have no problems to progress whatsoever. As they don’t have the quality of players they has around a decade ago, they are not among the two or three teams touted as favourites of the tournaments.
Spain start their European Championship a week from Monday as they host Sweden at the Estadio San Mames stadium in Bilbao.
