Everton beat Newcastle to move out of relegation zone

    December 8, 2023

Despite a 10-point deduction by the English FA, which dropped Everton into the relegation zone, the Toffees are out of the drop zone and one point clear of the bottom three after trashing Newcastle United 3-0 in a Premier League fixture on Thursday, which puts the Merseyside team in 17th position.

The Toffees plummeted into the bottom three after their 10-point deduction for breaking the Premier League financial rules, but after the final eleven minutes of the game, they moved back into safety.

Late goals from Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and summer signing Beto gave Everton all three points. After the game, Everton manager Sean Dyche believes that the first half was good for the home side at Goodison Park.

“I thought we were good from the off. Particularly the first half, a strong half against a good side. There was a lot of good detail in our performance. The missing link that has been obvious is scoring goals, and the first half was another headscratcher. They had a couple of chances, to be fair, but we had three golden chances. You come in at half-time wondering, but the second half again was a really solid performance. We kept at it, and I was really pleased with the mentality and the quality of scoring the goals.” Sean Dyche said.

Elsewhere, Tottenham’s poor run of form stretched to five games as they were beaten 2-1 at home by West Ham United. Ange Postecoglu’s side are winless in five, losing four and a draw.

After a 3-3 draw with Manchester City in their last game, Spurs were in hopes of a first victory since the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in October.

The home side took the lead in the 11th minute of the game through Cristian Romero, but two second-half goals from Jarrod Bowen and James Ward Prowse sealed the win for the visitors.
