Manchester United may not be in exceptional form this season in the Premier League but they still keep on producing talents who can develop into world-beaters. Recently former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson lauded United youngster James Garner who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forrest.
Garner has recently earned a lot of praise for his performance in the FA Cup against Premier League outfit Leicester City as he guided the Forrest to a 4-1 win over the Foxes. Garner had an assist and also notched up a pass completion rate of over 80% and also had 13 ball recoveries among other stats.
The 20-year-old has one goal and one assist in 27 appearances across all competitions this season. But he has been long named as the next big thing.
Robinson also agreed to this and wrote good things about the youngster on Football Insider. Robinson stated how he should be a part of the first team under their new manager next season.
Robinson feels that he has proven enough at Forrest that he is ready for the Premier League next season. “He is an example of why players get sent out on loan. He can play at the top level and I think he has proven that at Forest. I don’t think he’s one that will go straight into the Man United side but I think there is a first-team role there for him and he will feature next season.”
Manchester United have a glaring problem in their holding midfield position and Garner provides a lot of qualities that the Red Devils want in the middle. Hence Robinson feels that Garner can have a regular spot in the United’s main team.
“The club will have a very close eye on his development. At the moment, he is played extremely well in a Forest side that are in great form,” he added.
Garner has everything that he needs to feature at the top level. However, he needs to develop his physical attributes to fight it out against other midfielders during midfield tussle. Alongside Dylan Levitt, Garner is another midfield prospect who looks ready for the future. Other than the two there are talented players in Charlie Savage, Hannibal Mejbri and Zidane Iqbal from whom we can expect more minutes next season.
Apart from Garner, Amad Diallo, Tahith Chong, Brandon Williams, Ethan Galbraith, Axel Tuanzebe, Facundo Pellistri and Ethan Laird are all currently out on loan. Out of them at least a couple of youngsters will surely go on to feature for the Red Devils.
