Former Liverpool defender and club legend Jamie Carragher feels that had Jurgen Klopp been at Real Madrid he would have been sacked in six months after a single trophyless season. The Blancos are an extremely ambitious club and not winning trophies is considered a failure. However, Klopp is considered one of the best managers around the world did not have a flying start to his Anfield journey as he went trophyless for several seasons only to build an empire, a team that can challenge for the Premier League and also the Champions League at the same time.
Klopp took charge of the club in October 2015 and the Reds finished eighth in the Premier League standings, losing both the League Cup finals and the Europa League finals. They went trophyless the next two seasons as well. They finished fourth both times and reached the Champions League finals only to lose out against Real Madrid in the 2017-18 season.
But the Reds came back next season to bag the Champions League title as they defeated Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur in the finals. That was the first trophy for Klopp as a Liverpool manager He then created history by helping the Reds win the Premier League title the next season and ended a 30-year-old curse in English football.
Carragher feels that at Real Madrid they would not have waited for so long and would have sacked him after one single trophyless season given the philosophy that they have in Madrid. Therefore he feels that the Real Madrid job is not a project for managers who like to take their time and get things settled according to their liking.
“The Real Madrid job is never a ‘project’ for a coach who wants time to rebuild or evolve new systems. That is why Klopp turned down the chance to go there. He could never have created a team like Liverpool in Madrid. They would have sacked him after 12 months without a trophy, regardless of how much progress was being made,” Carragher explained.
Liverpool have gone through the hard times and they have held Jurgen Klopp’s hands and now the German tactician is repay9ing them for all the trust shown by the management. Liverpool have a chance to win the unprecedented quadruple this year. They are only a point behind Manchester City in the Premier League, They have already won the League Cup and are in the finals of the FA Cup and Champions League. The Reds will face Chelsea in the finals of the FA and will take on Real Madrid for the continental crown. So there is definitely a chance for Klopp’s men to bag a quadruple season.
