Liverpool were sensational last season and with their new signings they will once again be in the fight with Manchester City to win the Premier League. While Liverpoool have lost Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, they already have replacements in place. Players like Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez are new in the lineup, while the Colombian winger joined the club in the winter transfer window of last season he has already got a hang of everything.
Whereas it will be a new start for Uruguayan star Darwin Nunez. In the these couple of years Jurgen Klopp featured Diogo Jota in place of Roberto Firmino and it worked like a charm. The Portuguese forward who joined the club from the Wolves has been sensational for the Reds. He has scored 34 times in 85 appearances in all competitions and have been very consistent for the Reds.
However with Luis Diaz’s arrival, Jota’s gametime has taken a hit as Klopp moved Mane through the middle and Diaz through the left flank. However now with Mane gone and Nunez coming in, Jota’s minutes as a frontline striker will be restricted. He may still be a cover for the frontline forwards and it is something that former Liverpool midfielder Dan Murphy simply cannot accept.
Murphy sympathizes with the Portugal international and feels that he should be getting into the first team with Mane’s departure. However we have often seen him left out of the squad during some of the crucial games. Murphy shared how Jota offers both goals and assists and still does not get picked regularly.
“I feel for him a little bit because he didn’t start a few big games towards the end of last season. His contribution since he’s come in has been phenomenal. What do you want from an attacking player? Goals and assists. He offers both,” the former Liverpool midfielder stated.
It will be interesting to see how the big money transfer of Darwin Nunez pans out ultimately for the Reds. He has done really well for SL Benfica in the Portuguese league and will have to replicate that form in the Premier League which is a huge task for the Uruguayan youngster. With Erling Haaland joining their title rivals, Liverpool will have their eyes fixed on their big money signing Darwin Nunez. The Reds snatched him from the jaws of different teams in Europe as there aren’t many good no.9 available in the market right now. Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that this investment takes them over Manchester City in the upcoming season.
