Arsenal have been a surprise package this season as they top the Premier League eight points clear. The Gunners have been in great form and they have had a lot of things working for them, especially the form of Aaron Ramsdale who has been sensational in between the sticks for the North London club.
The Gunners signed Ramsdale when Bernd Leno got injured and Emiliano Martinez rose to the occasion and became the first choice. However soon the Argentine custodian joined Aston Villa and Ramsdale flourished at the Emirates Stadium. He has been exceptional this season and has been very crucial in Arsenal’s rise to the top.
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville had his doubts when the English goalkeeper was signed but now he has changed his opinion on the young goalkeeper after his heroics for Arsenal this season.
So speaking on the ‘Gary Neville Podcast’ the former defender admitted that he made a quick judgement. He shared how impressed he was with the English custodian. “I’ll be really honest with you, when I looked at Ramsdale, the price tag, getting rid of Martinez, I wasn’t sure. He’s not my style of goalkeeper, I’ll be really honest with you. He wants to get too involved. I like a big goalkeeper, 6’3, 6’4, really dominant, scares opposition forwards. But he is more of a modern goalkeeper that is in fashion. And I have to say today, that’s the most composed I’ve seen him. I don’t think he put a foot wrong today. And he brought real authority to his team,” Neville clarified.
Arsenal were exceptional against Tottenham Hotspurs as they won the North London Derby. The Gunners won 2-0 which had a Hugo Lloris own goal and a fine strike from Martin Odegaard to take all three points and go eight points clear off second placed Manchester City. The Citizens on the other hand lost against their arch rivals Manchester United.
The Gunners will be next playing against in form Red Devils as Erik ten Hag’s men were brimming in confidence in the Derby clash. They will look to carry that motivation in their next big clash in the Premier League as they travel to the Emirates in search of another win.
