Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney still believes that Manchester City will leapfrog Arsenal to win the Premier League title. It is a bold prediction considering the Gunners are at the top of the Premier League standings and have an eight point lead over the Citizens. However Pep Guardiola’s men have played a game less and may reduce this gap.
But Rooney feels it will be Manchester City, who will overtake the Gunners and defend their crown. With only around 10 games remaining in the Premier League season and with Arsenal leading the race throughout, it will be heartbreaking for the fans to see them not win the league this time.
Rooney feels that City has that experience in winning Premier Legaue and has a very exceptional coach in Guardiola and hence they are favourites for him to win the league this time again. However he wants to see if Arsenal can hold out the Citizens in the remaining matches.
The English striker who had won five Premier League trophies with Manchester United, feels that his former side are out of the title race. While his brain suggest City to win the league, being a rival he prefers an Arsenal win anyday.
“I think City will pip them (Arsenal) to it. I think United are almost out of it now – not fully – but almost. If you’re asking me who I want to win it between Arsenal and City, then I hope Arsenal do win it,” he added.
There are stories in the past when the Gunners have faltered from prime positions to achieve accolades and they have just fizzled under pressure. Hence Mikel Arteta will be very particular about that as he cannot afford any hiccup this late in the season. Also City will face off against Arsenal later on in April and it will be crucial in the title contest. The Citizens genuinely have some chances of toppling the Gunners.
While Arsenal will feature against Leeds United in their next match, City will square off against the tricky Liverpool. The Gunners will hope to extend their winning run, having won their last six matches. They will also keep an eye on the Citizens and their clash against the Reds.
