Manchester United are in for a rebuild with their new manager Erik ten Hag steering the ship from this season. However former United striker Louis Saha feels that the club should be extremely reasonable with their big money signings. The Frenchman does not want the Red Devils to bring in someone with big bucks and then realize that he is not someone who can gel well with the other players.
He does not want a big money signing to disrupt the dressing room, something that has happened in the past. Saha warns United not to repeat the same mistake rather he wants them to take time and weigh the players before making the move.
Louis Saha shared his thoughts on Sky Sports as he said, “Man United have to make the right choices and sign the right players for the club. It’s very important not to panic buy, those in charge of signings need to make sure the philosophies at the club are right and that the players coming through the door are buying into the project.”
He shares how sometimes big money signings can disrupt the harmony and that damages everything that the club is trying to build under their new Dutch manager. He also highlights how United does not need to think about their rivals while going into the transfer market, rather they need to get signings that will suit their team and make them better.
“It doesn’t matter how much you’re spending, it’s about quality. You don’t need to spend £100million on a player who is going to disrupt your club. They don’t need to worry about being left behind by their rivals,” Saha added.
After Alex Ferguson’s departure, United have seen several big names joining the club for big bucks. The prime example has to be Paul Pogba’s return from Juventus which was a world record fee during that time. Pogba came back with a lot of expectations but never really stood up to the task and will be leaving this summer on a free transfer.
Similarly there were players like Angel Di Maria who had a rough time with the fans and eventually left for PSG. Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are the latest big money signings who are still at the club but have not lived up to the promise ever since coming to Old Trafford.
So experiences with big money signings in the recent past have not been great for United and therefore Saha is warning them to check all ends before diving into a big money signing this summer.
