Everton manager Frank Lampard has pointed out individual mistakes by his players as one of the reasons why the Toffees lost to Burnley on Wednesday evening.
Burnley hosted Everton at Turf Moor in an outstanding Premier League game on Wednesday evening.
Both sides are in the relegation zone, but Everton was four points ahead of their hosts before the game. The Clarets were in 19th position while Everton was in the 17th position.
Burnley took the lead in the 12th minute before Everton equalized and went into the lead through a brace of penalties from Brazilian Richarlison in the first half.
The Brazilian became the first Everton player to score under each of their last five managers who took charge of them in the Premier League.
The unwanted stat is that Lampard has now lost 8 of his last twelve matches in charge. However, this was a game they should have won had Jay Rodriguez and Max Cornet not scored in the second half for a 3-2 win.
It’s the first time Burnley will take the lead, fall behind and come back to win a game in the Premier League in the club’s history.
While Burnley plays Norwich City for the weekend in another relegation battle, Everton will face Manchester United in what is going to be a tough final nine matches in the Premier League for the Toffees.
While pointing out the team’s mistakes, Lampard stated that his team has to recover in three days.
“It’s football; in three days, we have to recover for our next game. We had mistakes for their goals and mistakes in not being clinical enough to take the numerous chances that should have had us clear at that point. But 2-1, the way we were playing in the second half, was for us to go and score and make it 3-1. We don’t do that. Then we just concede from individual mistakes.” Lampard said after the game.
