Frank Lampard’s Rangers Snub: When Fan Sentiment Matters

The recent decision by Scottish giants Rangers to drop the idea of appointing Frank Lampard as their manager is a testament to just how much fan reaction can matter in the beautiful game.

Frank Lampard, a Chelsea legend, had been in the running for the Rangers managerial position following the departure of Michael Beale. However, his potential appointment received a mixed reaction from the Rangers faithful, and the club decided to change course.

Lampard’s managerial journey has been a rollercoaster ride. After leaving his interim role at Chelsea at the end of the previous season, he was in search of a new opportunity. He had previously managed Everton and had his first spell as a boss at Derby County during the 2018-19 season.

Rangers, eager to find a new manager after a lackluster start to the season, included Lampard on their final shortlist. However, it soon became clear that the England legend’s potential appointment didn’t sit well with all the fans. Some supporters were vocal in their opposition to Lampard taking charge at Ibrox.

Rangers’ fans made their voices heard on social media platforms, expressing their reservations about Lampard’s potential appointment. Posts related to Lampard on Rangers’ social media channels were met with comments from fans rejecting the idea, often accompanied by images of Lampard with red crosses and statements like “no to mediocrity, no to Lampard.”

As a result, Rangers decided to explore alternative options for their managerial vacancy. One of the potential candidates in the mix is former Gers defender Kevin Muscat, who currently manages Japanese side Yokohama Marinos.

Rangers’ decision to part ways with Michael Beale was prompted by a series of disappointing performances. The team has won just four of their opening seven Scottish Premiership games this season, sitting third in the table. A 3-1 home defeat to Aberdeen marked Beale’s final game in charge, with Steven Davis temporarily stepping in as manager.

Rangers are already seven points behind their rivals and league leaders Celtic, who have maintained an unbeaten record in their first seven games. The team’s struggles continued in the Europa League with a 2-1 loss to Aris Limassol.

The episode serves as a reminder that in the world of football, it’s not just about having any coach; it’s about having one that both the players and the fans can support. While Lampard continues his wait for the right managerial opportunity, Rangers are left searching for the right leader to guide them through the season.
