Fulham FC’s Team Doctor Helps the Homeless During Coronavirus Pandemic

    May 2, 2020

Fulham FC Doctor Justin Yeoh is helping the homeless battle severe health problems and addictions. Yeoh said his voluntary work to help vulnerable homeless people is “very rewarding.”

Doctor Yeoh is a specialist in sports and exercise medicine. He was part of the team treating Olympians at the aquatics and diving centre during London 2012.

While football is on lockdown, Fulham FC and the Fulham FC Foundation have been working with many groups in the community and Doctor Yeoh said they “have been keeping in touch with supporters and people from our neighbourhood.”

Many of the homeless people Doctor Yeoh has been caring for have complex health issues such as diabetes, addiction, heart disease and mental health problems and they also have a higher rate of respiratory issues, putting them more at risk of COVID-19.

Hammersmith and Fulham council is teaming up with St Mungo’s and Turning Point during the coronavirus pandemic to help tackle drug and alcohol use, mental health issues and domestic abuse as people are in the hotels. They also feed them and provide medicines.

They also use this time to help find long-term solutions for the housing needs of people, which may be complex.

“Whilst football is currently suspended, I’m glad to have been invited to offer my services to Turning Point and work closely with them, St Mungo’s and the local authority to support the tremendous work being carried out with the homeless in the borough,” doctor Yeoh said.
