Fulham vs Wigan Athletic Match History

    September 26, 2019

As Scott Parker and his Fulham team are gearing up for their tie against Wigan Athletic at Craven Cottage, we take a look at their last five meetings at the stadium.

2010/11 Season: The Fulham team, which was under the guidance of Mark Hughes, welcomed Wigan Athletic to their home ground with a point to prove. The match had the likes of Moussa Dembele, Mark Schwarzer, Danny Murphy and Brede Hangeland in the starting line-up. A brace from Clint Dempsey was enough for Fulham to be victorious. The London club finished 8th on the log.

2011/12 Season: The Cottagers, who were being managed by Martin Jol, had to come from behind to grab all three points. Wigan Athletic had led through Emmerson Boyce’s fierce drive, however, Pavel Pogrebnyak level things up when he fired into the bottom corner, with the game heading towards a draw, Philippe Senderos’s 89th-minute header ensured they ended Wigan’s recent revival.

2012/13 Season: The two side’s rivalry continued in the Premier League as Martin Jol and his Fulham team welcomes the Latics for another crunch tie. Roberto Martinez’s Wigan side at that time were in the relegation battle as they aim to stay in the top flight. However, Fulham who were 13th on the League, were also hoping for a place in Europe. Fulham had the say in the first quarter as they took the lead through Giorgos Karagounis. However, they had to settle for a one-all draw after Franco Di Santo scored a 71st-minute equaliser.

2014/15 Season: The two teams at this time have been relegated from the Premier League, and the return back to the top flight was the major agenda. Scott Parker, who was still an active player then, was among the starting eleven as they aim to make a statement in their push for promotion. Ross McCormack got the ball rolling as he struck the first blow after just four minutes. However, Jason Pearce’s goal for Wigan ensured the game ended in a 2-2 draw after Matt Smith goal had canceled out Jermaine Pennant goal.

2016/17 Season: The last meeting between the two sides ended in a trilling manner as Fulham had to come from behind to win the match. They had earlier taken the lead through Floyd Ayité. However, an own goal and a strike from Michael Jacobs had given Wigan Athletic the lead. However, Denis Odoi’s 71st minute goal leveled things up before Neeskens Kebano’s last-minute goal ensured the Cottagers end the match with all three points.

Let’s see how it would go this time around.

Fulham are favoured at 1.52 to win Wigan Athletic, while Wigan are set at 5.88.
