Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus has completed his move to North London club Arsenal from Manchester City. The striker signed a long-term contract with the Gunners on Monday.
Jesus, who won for Premier League title with Manchester City, joined Arsenal on a 45 million pounds deal the striker once worked with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta when he was the assistant manager to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, and the Spaniard has said that he is delighted to have him join the team.
“The club has done a tremendous job of recruiting a player of this stature. I know Gabriel personally very well, and we all know him well from his time in the Premier League and being really successful here, This is a position that’s been on our radar for a long time now, and we have managed to get a player that we all wanted, so I’m really happy.” Arteta said.
Gabriel Jesus fills Arsenal’s vacant number 9 position after the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona and the exit of Alexandre Lacazzette to Lyon at the end of last season.
Mikel Arteta improvised with the likes of Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Martinelli, and Folarin Balogun. It has also been a busy summer for the Gunners, who make Gabriel Jesus their fourth signing of the transfer window.
The Brazilian joins after the addition of fellow countryman Marquinhos, American goalkeeper Matt Turner and Portuguese midfielder Fabio Vieira.
Meanwell Premier League champions Manchester City have also completed the signing of Leeds United English midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
The 26-year-old joins on a six-year contract for 45 million pounds. Phillips spent seven seasons at Leeds United after making his debut in 2015, scoring 14 goals from 235 appearances in his over eight seasons at Elland Road.
Phillips played all of England’s matches at the Euro 2020 to reach the final, where they lost to eventual champions Italy at Wembley Stadium.
