Guardiola admits City not used to poor form

    December 11, 2023

One of the managers whose teams failed to win in the last month before recording a victory at Kenilworth Road is Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, who admitted that his team were not used to such a form that initially put them seven points behind the top of the table after they failed to win their last four Premier League fixtures before Sunday’s travel to lowly Luton Town.

That run almost took a turn for the worse, becoming a five-game winless run when Elijah Adebayo scored late in the first half for the Hatters. However, two quick goals from Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish in three second-half minutes after the hour mark secured the win, and Pep Guardiola was relieved to prove those who wrote his team off wrong.

“Four games we didn’t win – we are not used to that. People say, ‘City is over already.’ This is the challenge that we have ahead of us. Prove them wrong and still be there. The way they run and fight coming here and behave like we behaved, I am really, really, really proud. We were seven points behind before the game. Now we are four, so we are a little bit closer. In my experience in this country, the Premier League is so long, so it never ends.” Guardiola said.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City is not the only team that ended an unwanted run as Tottenham Hotspur also ended their five-game Windows run with a 4-1 victory over Newcastle United on Sunday.

Destiny Udogie got his first Tottenham goal, while Richarlison scored a brace, and a penalty from Son Heung-Min secured their first win since October.
