Despite asking to leave the club this summer, Harry Kane announced this week he would be staying with Tottenham. He still has three years remaining on the current deal with the Hotspurs.
“It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I’ve had in the last few weeks,” Kane said. “I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success.”
Kane had asked to leave the club in an effort to land with a side that had a realistic chance of winning multiple titles.
After discussions and negotiations between Tottenham and Manchester City failed to reach an agreement, Kane made his public statement.
Kane came off the bench in the Spurs’ last match, a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton on the road.
It was Kane’s first appearance for Tottenham this season. Kane played just shy of 20 minutes in the match.
Tottenham had put a price tag on Kane of at least £150 million on Kane. City’s reported package for Kane was £100 million along with some other players added into the deal. Reports indicate, however, that no formal offer may have ever been made.
“Great news. Fantastic news for everybody,” Tottenham coach Nuno Espirito Santo said. “Since Harry joined us he has been working, so this is what we value. His attitude in training sessions has been great. It’s finished, Harry is going to be with us. He worked today, he is an option for tomorrow. Like I said, fantastic news for everybody. We are all very happy. One of the best players in the world. We are all delighted to have one more option for the season ahead of us.”
The Spurs have a match mid-week on Thursday vs Pacos de Ferreira in a Europa Conference League qualifying match.
Tottenham are back in Premier League action vs Watford this Sunday, 29 August.
