Harry Kane won the Premier League Golden Boot for the third time in his career as he finished the season with a total of 23 goals to his name. In the process, he also equaled Manchester United legend Alan Shearer for winning the Golden Boot thrice and therefore, has inched closer to equaling Thierry Henry’s record.
Kane finished just one goal ahead of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah and he did that with his equalizer in Tottenham’s final league game against Leicester City, which ended in a 4-2 win for the Spurs.
This is the fifth time when the England forward has gone past the 20-goal club in the last seven years. However, this is the first time since the 2017-18 season. His haul of 23 goals is also his fourth best tally in any Premier League season.
Kane previously won the Golden Boot in the 2016-17 season when he scored 29 goals in a total of 30 outings. He repeated the feat in the 2017-18 season as he scored 30 goals in that edition. That is the only time in his career when he went past the 30-goal mark but he had played seven additional games as well.
The striker has enjoyed tremendous success with Tottenham Hotspur but he has been linked with a move away from the club ahead of next season. Manchester City and Manchester United are said to be the frontrunners to get him onboard and it remains to be seen how it pans out.
Kane was seen having an emotional moment with Spurs duo Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son at the center of the King Power Stadium pitch after the game against Leicester. The trio were seen hugging each other after the win and it was understandable considering the kind of memories Kane had shared with these two players over the years. Together, the three had led the Spurs to many memorable victories.
