Tottenham secured a 3-2 win over Frankfurt at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Wednesday night as Heung-min Son’s double and a spot kick from Harry Kane got the North Londoners a deserved three points.
Before the blast of the whistle, Spurs took a minute of silence wearing black armbands as they paid respects to the late former fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone.
Frankfurt had a previous record of two wins on the last trip to London, and they look to attempt another win on Wednesday night once again.
The game kicked off as Tottenham got off to a sluggish start, which they eventually paid for as they found themselves 1-0 down in the 14rh minute when the German side broke the deadlock after Christopher Lenz displaced Eric Dier off the ball before laying a pass to Sebastian Rode who in turn played in Daichi Kamada’s who scored into an open net.
With a goal down, Tottenham restored parity through Son Heung-Min in the 20th minute after a brilliant run of play from the host.
Conte’s men went ahead in the 28th minute after being awarded a free kick which was cooly converted by the clinical Harry Kane.
South Korean International Son was on song again in the 36th minute after a beautiful volley following a brilliant cross from Pierre Emile Hojberg to make it 3-1.
Tottenham resumed at the break, and they continued to pile up the pressure on their visitors, with Kevin Trapp going low to prevent further goals as he made brilliant saves from Sessegnon, Romero, and the ever-dangerous Son.
Things got messy on the hour mark as Frankfurt center-back Tuta was sent off for a pullback on Son after an initial booking three minutes earlier.
Oliver Glasner’s side wanted a nervy end to the game as Alidou rose high to convert Mario Gotze’s corner making it 3-2.
All hopes for a miraculous comeback were squashed as the Spurs held on for an all-important win.
Tottenham sits top of the log with 7 points, followed closely by French side Marseille with six points after their 2-0/win say at Sporting Lisbon.
