“I cried after the game and I was hurt,” former France defender Patrice Evra revealed that he was hurt after France lost the World Cup final

    December 23, 2022

The World Cup final between Argentina and France was one for the ages as both teams were not ready to give an inch to their opponents. It was a great contest with La Albiceleste taking a 2-0 lead over Les Blues. But later courtesy of Kylian Mbappe, France also equalized and forced extratime. It was a roller coaster of a game with both teams striking blows and trying to keep each other at bay.

However the game had to have a winner and Argentina on the day were superior on penalties as Emi Martinez came up with a couple of saves whereas Gionzalo Montiel scored the winning penalty for the Latin Americans.

The win ended a 36-year drought for La Albiceleste and denied France from winning back to back World Cup titles. It was a tough result to accept for the French players and the fans. Even former Manchester United fullback Patrice Evra shared his thoughts on the match and how emotional it was for him throughout the final. He claimed it the best final ever and wanted to congratulate all the players, coaches and managers for the amazing final.

“It was the best final I have ever watched. It was full of crazy emotion and it got to a point where in the first half we were done and we came back alive, that’s football. I think we should congratulate all the players that were on the pitch, the manager and the fans, it was amazing,” he told Betfair.

The former France and United right back shared how it was tough for him to accept France’s defeat at the 2022 World Cup final. It was a very emotional ride for him and very tough to accept. He shared how he watched it with a bunch of fans and felt that France had a great chance on the 120th minute when Kolo Muani’s shot was saved by a full stretched Emi Martinez to force the penalties.

“I watched it with a group of fans and they were all cheering for Argentina, it was crazy. I cried after the game and I was hurt, it was difficult to accept, especially when in the 120th minute when France had the chance to score and the goalkeeper made that amazing save,” Evra revealed.

He went on praising that save as he feels that without that save France would have been World Champions. “I don’t think we talk enough about how amazing that save was and without that we would be champions of the world,” Evra said in acknowledgement.
