“I feel betrayed, some people don’t want me in the team,” Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo opens up on his current situation and criticizes Erik ten Hag
Cristiano Ronaldo is probably going through his worst phase in his career at United. He recently had a go at the current boss Erik ten Hag and also touched upon several issues around the club and current situation which is holding them back. He spoke about all the issues in an interview with famous British journalist Piers Morgan.
The United forward shared how he has been very disappointed with the club and the top executives as he shared how some people don’t want him here despite his long association with the club. “I feel betrayed. I feel some people don’t want me in the team, not only this year but last year too.”
Ronaldo also shared he did not like how former manager Ralf Rangnick managed things at the club. He even shared how he had not heard his name before he joined United. “If you’re not even a coach, how are you going to be the boss of Manchester United? I’d never even heard of him,” Ronaldo shared about the German tactician.
The five time Ballon d’Or winner also opened up on his relationship with the current manager Erik ten Hag and how things have soured between the two of them. Ronaldo who has started only four matches in the Premier League shared how the former Ajax manager disrespected him. “I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me. If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you.”
He then reminisced how Alex Ferguson asked him to join Manchester United and it was on his calling he decided to join the club again. Otherwise he was on his way to joining Manchester City.
“I followed my heart. He (Sir Alex) said to me, ‘It’s impossible for you to come to Manchester City’, and I said, ‘OK, Boss’,” Ronaldo shared his conversation with former manager Alex Ferguson.
He then also opened up on how shocked he was seeing zero progress at the club ever since he left back in 2009. He shared how the facilities were the same and way behind top clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City and current Arsenal. “The progress was zero. Since Sir Alex left, I saw no evolution in the club. Nothing had changed. I think the fans should know the truth,” Ronaldo opened up. “But you have some things inside that don’t help (us) reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal. A club with this dimension should be top of the tree in my opinion and they are not unfortunately.”
It is certainly sad to see Ronaldo so unhappy at Manchester United as he has had several altercations with the current manager. It also seems like he has already played his last match for the Red Devils and a January window is now well and truly on the cards especially after this interview. It remains to be seen where Ronaldo ends up next.
