I imagine he will continue for many more years – Fernando Gomes backs Cristiano Ronaldo to carry on playing for Portugal

The President of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Fernando Gomes has backed Cristiano Ronaldo to continue playing for the national team for many more years. Ronaldo, 38, is still at the top of his fitness and he is going strong at the top level.

The Portuguese has already scored more than 50 goals (51 to be precise) in 2023. In the ongoing season of the Saudi Pro League, Ronaldo has been in stellar form for Al-Nassr. The talisman has scored 17 goals and has provided nine assists in 16 matches he has played.

Ronaldo still has the hunger and passion to keep playing for the national team and Gomes feels the linchpin will be around as long as he is at the helm of Portuguese Football Federation.

Gomes said on TheNassrZone on X, “The only thing I have for sure at the moment is that Cristiano will not leave Portugal until after I leave office. In fact, if he continues with the strength and ambition he has shown, I imagine he will continue for many more years.”

On the other hand, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo picked Cristiano Ronaldo when asked which Portuguese football star would he choose to join his team for a day.

He said via Marca, “You gotta with the ‘GOAT’, one and only Cristiano Ronaldo. Any sport he’d play he’d probably be good at it. He’s so competitive, so driven being able to play such a high level at 37-38 years old. It’s very impressive so I’ll go with the ‘GOAT’.”

Ronaldo has delivered both for Portugal and for the clubs he has played in his glorious career. The talisman is well known to work extremely hard on his fitness and he is reaping rewards despite being 38 as he is going the extra mile in his career.
