I was really unhappy with our performance – Erik Ten Hag despite win against Leicester City

    February 22, 2023

Manchester United’s manager Erik Ten Hag was not unhappy despite his team’s 3-0 win against Leicester City at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Dutchman called his team’s first-half performance a mess and rubbish.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford continued his good show as he scored a scintillating goal in the 25th minute. Rashford scored his second goal of the evening in the 56th minute to claim his best season in the English Premier League. The youngster has scored 14 goals in 24 matches for the Red Devils in the ongoing season.

Furthermore, Jadon Sancho scored in the 61st minute of the game to give a thumping 3-0 lead to the home team.

“I was really unhappy with our performance,” Ten Hag told a postmatch news conference.

“We have to follow the rules and principles of our way of playing. When we don’t, it is a mess. When we face a good opponent like Leicester they have chances and it’s only down to David De Gea that we don’t concede a goal. We were really lucky at half-time that we were one goal up. It was a great goal but the rest, it is rubbish.”

Amid talks of the takeover of Manchester United, the 52-year-old wants his players to stay focused on upcoming matches against Barcelona and Newcastle United.

“We are committed to this club,” the United manager said.

“It is our club, in our heart but it is not our job [to focus on the takeover]. We focus on football and perform and that is what the players and staff have to do.”

On the other hand, Leicester City head coach Brendan Rodgers feels Marcel Sabitzer should have received a red card for his foul against Wout Faes.

“It’s a sending off, a straight leg onto the knee,” Rodgers said.

“How it was not looked at and deemed that is incredible. The last few weeks some of the decisions we have seen. Someone has said it was after an incident but I don’t buy that. He has straight legged him right on his knee.”
