Former Chelsea midfielder Christian Pulisic said he wished the club gave him more opportunities during his four-year stint. The 24-year-old played 24 matches in the 2022-23 season of the Premier League for the Blues, in which he scored one goal and provided one assist.
The American star had signed a €64 million transfer deal to Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund in 2019. However, he could not live up to the lofty expectations of the team. The youngster has now signed a four-year contract with AC Milan this week and he is looking forward to the new challenge.
Pulisic played a total of 145 matches for Chelsea across all competitions, scoring 26 goals and setting up 21 goals during his four-year stay at the London-based club.
“Of course. I’d like to think so,” Pulisic said in an interview with ESPN. “Of course, there are definitely times where I wish I could’ve gotten more of an opportunity and been that guy, but yeah, for whatever reason, that’s not the case, and like I said, I’m just so excited for this new challenge and I’m definitely ready and up for it.”
Pulisic best season in the Premier League with Chelsea was his debut season in 2019-20, when he scored nine goals and provided four assists in 25 matches. However, his stay at the club was hampered by a slew of injuries and constant changes to managerial positions.
Pulisic revealed that Milan manager Stefano Pioli gave him the confidence to join the club.
“I think he made me feel like he wanted me here, he wanted me to be a part of this team and he saw me fitting into this team, and that’s what I wanted to hear,” he said.
“Obviously I want a fair opportunity like everyone else to have the chance to come here. I still need to earn my place, of course, but it felt like I was wanted here and I have a great opportunity, if I show good effort, good attitude every day and train well, I’m going to get the opportunity to go out and perform.”
The youngster has scored 25 goals in 60 matches for the USA.
