If we win against Manchester City, we don’t win the league – Mikel Arteta says Man City game not Premier League title decider

    April 27, 2023

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta feels Wednesday night’s game against second-placed Manchester City might not be the Premier League title decider however it will definitely tilt the tables. The Gunners (75 after 32 matches) have a five-point advantage against Cityzens (70 after 30 matches) but the latter has two more games in hand.

Arteta feels with five matches still to go, anything can happen and they need to be at their best against Pep Guardiola’s team.

Arsenal have successfully maintained their lead at the top throughout the season and they will be tested at the fag end of the season as Manchester City are hot on their heels.

Arteta said as quoted by Sky Sports, “If we win tomorrow night we haven’t won the league, that’s for sure. It will shift the percentages a little bit, but with five games left after this, it will still be very tricky.

Arteta added that they want to close the gap as much as they can and will aim to do well against City.

“We wanted to close that gap as much as we could and we’re toe-to-toe with them. We knew we had to go to the Etihad. Is it going to define the season? The answer is no.

“Mentality plays a huge part. Obviously, the belief is there. When I look at how they train and the way they’ve reacted, the mood in the dressing room and the way they defend each other, we really want it.

“We’re going to show that again tomorrow night. But we have to deliver in the right moment with the right performance and it has to be perfection because that’s what this last level demands – absolute perfection.”

Meanwhile, Manchester City are in red-hot form as they have been unbeaten in their last 16 matches across competitions. There is no doubt that it is going to be a crucial clash on Wednesday night between two of these title contenders.
