Immobile’s goal secures win for Lazio against Bologna

    August 15, 2022

On Sunday, Lazio striker Ciro Immobile secured an important win for the Rome club after coming from behind.

The hosts had found themselves down to ten men early in the first half, which reduced their strength against a physical side like Bologna.

Lazio goalie, Luís Maximiano would have wished for a better start to his Lazio career when he was sent off for handling the ball outside the box after just six minutes.

The number one just completely misjudged the ball when he rushed off his line and smothered the ball outside the penalty area.

This gave the visitors the chance to come out against Lazio, and that eventually worked in their favour.

Provedel, who replaced Maximiano, made his first big save when he rushed out to deny De Silvestri.

The high pressing led to their first away goal of the season for the visitors. Romagnoli had terrible clearance, which gave Zaccagni the chance to help in clearing it. But the Lazio man ended up booting Sansone instead, and the referee pointed to the spot. Marko Arnautovic then sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to give Bologna the lead.

The Austrian was later booked for infuriating Immobile after converting the spot-kick.

Bologna later in the first half also got reduced to ten men after Adama Soumaoro got his second yellow card of the day for a tackle on Lazzari. He had earlier been booked for a foul inside Lazio’s half.

After several attempts and chances were created, Lazio deservedly restored parity in the 68th minute through an own goal from De Silvestri.

Although the ball was probably going in, Immobile made sure the odd goal was counted. An angled drive from Lazzari got a full stretch from Skorupski, but it hit De Silvestri. As the ball was going,  Immobile ensured it went over the line.

The skipper will later score his 185th goal for the Rome club in a classical way. The striker finished the ball delicately by squeezing the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs one-on-one after being sent through by Milinkovic-Savic.

Lazio eventually held on to secure their 4th straight win on opening in four seasons.
