    Jean-Philippe-Gbamin-Everton

    Injury blow for Everton new-boy

    August 26, 2019

Everton summer signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin faces up to three months on the sidelines with a thigh injury. The Goodison Park club paid out £25million to land Gbamin from German club Mainz during the summer and the midfielder featured in their first two Premier League games of the season.

The Ivory Coast international missed the 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Friday after suffering an injury in training and manager Marco Silva has now revealed the injury is “more significant than expected”.

The 23-year-old will have further tests this week to determine the full extent of the injury and if surgery is required. Gbamin could face three months out of action if he does have to go under the knife, but Everton are reportedly hopeful he will be able to make a return in around eight weeks.

The former Lens midfielder was brought in to fill the void left by Idrissa Gueye’s summer move to Paris Saint-Germain and his absence will be a big blow to Silva. Everton also signed midfielder Fabian Delph from Manchester City in an £8million deal and he is understood to be close to a return after picking up a groin injury in pre-season.

Delph is yet to feature for the Merseyside outfit since his arrival and his return will provide Everton with a timely boost following Gbamin’s injury blow, although it remains to be seen as to whether or not the 27-year-old for the visit of Wolves next Sunday.

Everton are 2.20 to overcome Wolves, a draw is 3.40 and the visitors are 3.40 to win.
