Indications have shown that MLS club Toronto FC could sign Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne and his Torino counterpart, Andrea Belotti.
According to close sources, the MLS club are in advanced talks with Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne. It was also mooted that they are also close to Torino striker Belotti.
Should both Italian internationals decide to leave next summer, Toronto FC will have in their fold as free agents.
Not only are the MLS club interested in them, but there are also some other Serie A sides, and a move abroad to the Premier League could be on the card.
If they join the MLS, this will be a strong message that the league and specifically Canada, is becoming a strong destination for footballers.
Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio and MLS specialist reporter Will Forbes said Toronto have also approached Torino hitman Belotti.
Although he is currently out injured until February, Belotti could make Torino some money instead of waiting till June where they will become free agents.
The last Italian that was in Toronto’s book was Sebastian Giovinco, who inspired them to silverware.
Being a free agent, Insigne can negotiate his terms. According to reports, the Italian international has been offered a five-year contract worth €11.5m per season, plus another €4.5m in various bonuses.
However, Belotti’s negotiations are at more of an early stage, and he is not as convinced that he wants to go abroad.
Despite that, Toronto are planning to line up a big-time offer for the 28-year-old striker.
Forming a partnership in Canada could be good to the eye should the deals go through.
However, the disadvantage of such a move could be that both won’t be considered for a place in the Azurri squad ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
Insigne played an important role for Italy that eventually won the Euro 2020 tournament.
