Joao Felix deny Atletico Madrid exit rumours

    June 27, 2022

Portuguese midfielder Joao Felix has explained that an exit from the Wanda Metropolitano is not part of the options available to him this summer.

The Atletico Madrid Midfielder has been rumored to be linked with a Premier League move with North Londoners Arsenal and Tottenham linked.

The 22-year-old was injured before the end of last season, but he had done enough to attract interest from abroad.

He scored 8 goals and made 4 assists in the La Liga last season, and this has attracted interest from Manchester United as well, but the youngster has made clear his plans.

“An exit from Atletico is not on the table. I am calm about my future and aware of what I can do. I feel good about myself. I am still on holiday, I have just started training to prepare for pre-season, but I’m not thinking about football too much.” Felix said in an interview.

Nevertheless, a move to Arsenal looks unlikely as the Gunners have set their sights on other midfield targets, including Leeds United’s Raphina.

They have already signed Marquinhos, Fabio Viera, and Matt Turner, while reports also indicated on Sunday evening that Mikel Arteta’s side has agreed with Manchester City to sign Gabriel Jesus.

Atletico couldn’t defend their La Liga title last season, but they did enough to return to the UEFA Champions League with a top-four finish as city rivals Real Madrid won the La Liga with games to spare.

Led by Diego Simeone, Atletico Madrid failed to show the kind of performances and consistency that saw them lift the title in 2021. They will start their new season away at Getafe.

Meanwhile, City rivals Real Madrid has seen Marcelo and Bale, among some of their stars, leave the Santiago Bernabeu after winning the UEFA Champions League and La Liga double last season.
