Joao Felix sent off on Premier League debut as Chelsea lose to Fulham

    January 13, 2023

Chelsea’s poor run of form under manager Graham Potter continued on Thursday night as the Blues were beaten 2-1 by Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Chelsea’s current form has been so abysmal that the club has continued to make signings in the January transfer window to improve the team’s results.

The Blues’ last victory came in a 2-0 win over Bournemouth on the 27th of December last year; however, that is their only victory in their last 10 games, losing 8 others and a draw.

Their winter transfer activities have brought in Benoit Badiashile, Andre Santos, David Fofana, and the loan deal for Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.

The Portuguese were brought in to help Chelsea’s goal-scoring problems alongside David Fofana from Molde. However, Joao Felix contributed to the reason behind Chelsea’s loss at Craven Cottage for the first time in 17 years after he was sent off barely an hour into his Premier League debut.

Former Chelsea forward Willian opened the scoring for the home side 25 minutes into the first half, while Senegalese Defender Kalidou Koulibaly put both teams level a few minutes after the break.

However, Felix’s red card gave the hosts the momentum and the advantage, which the Cottagers hopped on as Alves Morais scored the winner with less than 20 minutes to go. The loss puts Chelsea 11th on the log and Fulham in sixth.

Fulham forward, William, after the game, revealed that although he had massive respect for Chelsea, he believes Fulham deserved the victory.

“We deserved the win. We know how difficult it is to play against Chelsea. They are in a difficult moment, but we are a really good team. We deserved it, and we have to carry on. I had an amazing seven years at Chelsea. I have a big respect for the fans and the club. I play for Fulham now and have to do my best. It was a special night.” Willian said.
