Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has singled out Chelsea as the favourites to win the Premier League this season owing to the depth and strength of the squad Frank Lampard has at his disposal.
Lampard rebuilt Chelsea’s team completely having spent a total of 220 million pounds in the transfer window. Although they got off to a difficult start, they are in full throttle right now as they have gone unbeaten in their last 16 games across all competitions.
“If I watch football games at the moment then Chelsea, for me, look like favourites,” Klopp told reporters ahead of Liverpool’s home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“They have the biggest squad, great players playing well together after a rusty start – and they are full on.
“They have unbelievable opportunities to change in games and make changes from one game to the other – so that is it.”
Chelsea are currently placed at the second spot in the Premier League table with 22 points, which is just two points behind Tottenham Hotspur who are placed at the top of the table. Klopp’s Liverpool are a point behind Chelsea, at fourth.
Klopp also said that the title race this season so going to be more open than the past couple of seasons but Liverpool need to remain focused on their own process and performance.
“I don’t feel we are chasing anyone at the moment – or that anyone is chasing us,” the German coach said.
“Pressure is there for us, but it’s about how much you think about that pressure, to be honest.”
Chelsea have scored a total of 25 goals in this Premier League season, the most among all teams. They have conceded only 11 goals as well, the joint second least among all teams once again. That sums up that they haven’t only been prolific in scoring but have been solid as a defensive unit as well.
Timo Werner and Kurt Zouma are Chelsea’s joint top-scorer at the moment with four goals to their name each. Werner has assisted three times on top of that as well. Their young striker Tammy Abraham has done well in the limited number of opportunities, having scored three goals. The two full backs — Ben Chilwell and Reece James — have been crucial to their attacking play too, with the former contributing two goals and an equal number of assists, and the latter adding a goal along with two assists to the team.
