Juventus return to winning ways with a slim victory over Lecce

Juventus have returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Lecce after failing to record a win in four league games.

It was also a good outing for striker Dusan Vlahovic, who eventually ended his goal drought to give Juventus a much-needed victory over plucky Lecce.

Although the host struggled at Turin, they got the needed points in the bag as they badly needed a boost after one point from the last four rounds.

Leece thought they had taken the lead within two minutes when Assane Ceesay slid in at the back post to meet a Remy Oudin ball rolled across the face of the goal, but it was ruled offside.

Juve’s first chance came from Flip Kostic with an audacious lob after running onto Leonardo Bonucci’s long ball.

Juventus eventually opened the scoring chat with their first genuine attempt as a Leandro Paredes free kick went around the misplaced wall to surprise Wladimiro Falcone at the near bottom corner.

Juve would has made it two moments later, but a crucial Ricardo Rodriguez interception prevented Fabio Miretti from meeting the Mattia De Sciglio ball across the face of the goal.

Danilo also did justice to his defense when he stopped Ceesay from meeting another cross.

Juve had a goal chalked off for offside after the two NextGen talents combined to create a well-worked team goal. Nicolò Fagioli dinked a ball over the top for Miretti to slide in on the half-volley from six yards, but it was ruled marginally offside.

Meanwhile, Juve might be without Mattia De Sciglio for the remainder of the season after the defender was stretchered off with a knee injury.

Lecce restored parity from the penalty box. It was an easy decision for the referee as Danilo flapped his arm around and caught the ball on the way down from a joint header. Ceesay took the spot kick with a long run-up from outside the box to beat Wojciech Szczesny.

Juventus restored their lead with Vlahovic breaking his goal drought. The Serb had not scored in 773 minutes of Serie A matches. He let a Kostic cross bounce inside the box from the left before unleashing a perfect left-foot half-volley.

Juve would have taken the game beyond their visitors, but Miretti missed a sitter from a Bremer flicked-on free kick.

Lecce couldn’t get the equaliser as Juventus held on to record an important win.
