Indications have shown that negotiations between Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have reached an advanced stage for Leandro Paredes’ move to Turin.
This is coming at a time that Juventus and PSG were recently drawn in the same Champions League group. The football governing body, UEFA, made the draw on Thursday in Istanbul.
Since the representatives of the two clubs were in Istanbul for the 2022-23 Champions League group stage draw, there will no doubt be a discussion on transfer matters.
Juventus have also been paired in Group H alongside Maccabi Haifa of Israel and Portugal’s Benfica.
Multiple sources say the deal is imminent, and Paredes could be in Turin over the weekend.
This is a good development after months of talks. Sportitalia, La Gazzetta Dello Sport, and Sky Sport Italia reported that PSG are now prepared to let Paredes leave on loan with an obligation to buy under certain circumstances.
If the deal goes over the line, Paredes would be the second player to move from Paris Saint-Germain to Juventus this summer. The Argentine would join his good friend and countryman Angel Di Maria, who was able to negotiate himself as a free agent.
Paredes already had a stint in the Serie A. He had already played for Roma and Empoli before leaving for Zenit St Petersburg in 2017.
The Argentina international still has two years left in his contract.
Meanwhile, Juventus has already signed Arkadiusz Milik from Olympique Marseille on loan. Milik completed his medical on Thursday.
They have been able to cut costs with this deal. So, getting the Polish striker means they can afford to pay the €7.5m per season salary that Paredes commands.
Speaking on the transfer business of the club, Juventus vice-president Pavel Nedved, said Juventus will add some players to complete the squad.
“I cannot say anything because he is not our player. There are some players that could complete our squad, the market is not closed, and we will do something”, he added.
It was gathered that the Turin club abandoned talks with Memphis Depay due to his wage demands and instead brought in Milik on loan.
